The City of Orange Beach's Public Works crews have completed planting palm trees in the median on East Canal Road. Once the landscaping is fully complete, these trees will be illuminated with up-lighting, adding a charming ambiance to the area.

This initiative is part of a broader project aimed at improving the infrastructure and aesthetic appeal of East Canal Road, which was recently taken over from the state by the city. The next phase of this project involves final paving and striping, which is slated to begin within the next two weeks. Starting at Wilson Boulevard on the east end, the paving will progress westward. While there won’t be any lane closures, lane shifts will be implemented, and minor delays can be expected.

A critical aspect of this project is the paving work near the roundabout. To minimize disruptions, this part of the project is scheduled to occur during nighttime hours. The western end of the project, stretching between the roundabout and Hwy. 161, is anticipated to be completed by mid-March, contingent on weather conditions.

The project includes a new roundabout and a 10-foot multimodal path on the north side of East Canal Road, running from State Highway 161 to Wilson Boulevard.
